Why I (Almost) Always Recommend Bluebonnet Photos || College Station Bluebonnet Photographer

Every year, like clockwork, I say the same thing:

“I don’t think I’m doing bluebonnet minis this year.”

And honestly? I mean it… at the time.

Bluebonnet season can feel impossible to plan. The timing is unpredictable. Locations can change overnight. Finding spots that are safe, private, and actually photograph well isn’t easy. And if you were around last year, you remember Old Baylor really let us down. 😅

But overall. the flowers and fields and photographs are always so beautiful... and it's worth the hassle in the end!

Why Bluebonnet Season Is Tricky (But Worth It)

Bluebonnets don’t run on a schedule. They show up when they want, bloom differently every year, and don’t exactly care about our calendars.

That’s why:

  • Minis are hard to plan far in advance

  • Locations need to be carefully chosen for safety and privacy

  • Timing can change quickly based on weather

It’s stressful on the planning side—but the payoff is always worth it.

This Year Will Look a Little Different

This year, I’m approaching bluebonnet season a little differently.

Instead of forcing dates and hoping for the best:

  • I’ll wait until we see flowers blooming in a great location before opening mini spots

  • Or I may stick with full sessions, scheduling families when and where it works best for them

We’ll see how the season unfolds—but one thing is certain:

There will be wildflowers.

Why You Shouldn’t Wait for Minis

Here’s the honest truth: you don’t need to wait for bluebonnet minis to get beautiful wildflower photos.

Booking a full session gives us:

  • Flexibility with timing

  • The ability to move locations if needed

  • More space to let kids be kids

  • Less rushing and more real moments

Whether it’s a family session, cake smash, milestone, or couples shoot, we can plan around peak blooms and find the perfect wildflower location together.

This Is the Best Time of Year for Photos

There’s something special about spring in Texas. The colors. The warmth. The way everything feels alive again.

Bluebonnet and wildflower season brings:

  • Soft, natural color palettes

  • Dreamy, timeless backdrops

  • Photos that instantly feel joyful and nostalgic

It’s the kind of season you never regret documenting.

Sometimes the Best Explanation Is the Photos

I could list reasons all day… but honestly? This is one of those times where the photos speak for themselves. The laughter. The movement. The way families naturally interact when surrounded by wildflowers. It’s magic every single year.

Final Thoughts (Yes, I’m Still Recommending It)

Even though I swear every year that I won’t do bluebonnet photos… I still end up recommending them. Because despite the challenges, they consistently produce some of the most loved images of the entire year.

So don’t wait around for minis.

Book your family, milestone, cake smash, or couples session now, and let’s plan on finding the perfect wildflower spot when the time is right.

Spring will be here before you know it—and you’ll be so glad you didn’t miss it. 🌼
